Kilometers of solidarity that dye the streets in pink to fight against breast cancer
The Canary Association of Breast and Gynecological Cancer is a non-profit organization that has been fighting against these diseases for almost 20 years in the Canary Islands.
In its work of awareness and social and emotional support for all women in the community to enjoy better health, sports play a vital role. After two first editions doing this race, they got in touch with Sportmadness to professionalize the management and thus enhance the impact of this beautiful initiative.
In Sportmadness we believe in sport as a driver of change and that is why we got down to work with this movement, which would allocate the 100% of the enrollment to the ACCM.
To increase the impact of other editions, we worked to get the collaboration of public institutions. Thanks to the agreements with the City Council and Cabildo de Gran Canaria, it was possible to celebrate this initiative in the capital of the island, with an exit in the middle of Playa de Las Canteras.
In order to welcome any participant, regardless of their age or physical condition, 2 complementary competitions were designed: a race of 6 km, followed by a solidary walk of 3 km that triggered the participation.
Steps that lengthen life.
The involvement of public institutions at various levels (from the Tourism Board of Gran Canaria to the Cabildo) and the contributions of numerous private entities and companies made it possible to celebrate the biggest party so far. More than 1.200 participants gathered to achieve a record collection that will go directly to fight against breast cancer.
In addition to this great participation, the impact of the event was incredible, appearing in the main media throughout the country and helping to raise awareness about this problem, stressing the importance of prevention and encouraging early detection.
